Application FAQ
What skills do I need on admission to be a successful student in the Nursing Program?
Nursing is a highly interactive profession and you must be proficient in communication skills. Being able to read, write, speak clearly and independently are required.
Basic math skills and working with decimals, fractions, and ratios are essential. All students should consider doing some math preparation.
If you would like to work on your skills in any of these areas, contact the Counselling Department at Langara College. Courses are also available through continuing education and at other colleges and community agencies.
Must I wait until I have completed all the admission requirements before applying to the Nursing Program?
No. You may submit your application at any time. After your application has been assessed by the Admissions Advisor, you will be notified as to what admission requirements remain outstanding. You may submit documents pertaining to the admission requirements as they become available. Please send documents directly to Registrar and Enrolment Services.
How long should I expect to wait to receive an assessment from the Admissions office?
You should expect to hear from the Admissions office in 6 - 8 weeks. When the volume of applications is high, the time frame is closer to 8 weeks.
What happens after I submit my application?
Registrar and Enrolment Services will inform you by e-mail of the status of your application and whether or not documents or any additional material is required. Completed applications are reviewed for admission on a first-come, first served basis. Therefore you are advised to provide all supporting documents as soon as possible. If you have questions, or wish to make inquiries regarding your application, please contact the Nursing Admissions Clerk through Registrar and Enrolment Services.
Once documentation is complete and it has been established that you meet all requirements, you will receive an acknowledgment letter stating that your file is complete and you will be considered for the next available intake. Applicants who satisfy the criteria for admission to the program are admitted on a first completed, first served basis. As there is currently a high demand for seats in the Nursing Program, qualified applicants are placed on a waiting list.
Do I need to reapply if I do not get a seat when requested?
No. Your application is kept on file and you will be offered a seat when one becomes available. We will take your name off the waitlist after you are offered a seat, when you inform us that you no longer wish to be considered for the Langara College BSN Program, or if we are unable to reach you. (i.e. phone number not in service, mail returned).
What additional program requirements must be met?
You must obtain a Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR Level C with AED certificate prior to entering the Program. In Term I, the first semester of the Program, you will be required to show evidence of having recent (within the last year) certificates.
Another program requirement is that you undergo a criminal record search.
