Vancouver, BC – Students applying for Langara’s popular Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) will be pleased to learn that the program’s waitlist has been eliminated for the 2013 intakes.

The previously long waitlist has been cleared and will not exist in the future, thanks to a new curriculum initiative and a revision of program pre-requisites. Students are now welcome to apply to start in January or September 2013.

“It is very exciting for me to see our School of Nursing once again taking applications for our baccalaureate program,” said Margaret Heldman, the Dean of Langara’s Faculty of Science. “I expect students entering our renewed program will enjoy learning a curriculum carefully designed to prepare them for successful entry to practice.”

The renewed BSN program has been reduced in length to nine terms from ten, with an additional focus on education for skills development through realistic simulations to enhance student confidence prior to on-site practice. Revised admission requirements* are also designed to improve student success.

Proximity to many high-quality clinical practice placements gives students the opportunity to practice caring holistically for a variety of age groups with varying health challenges in diverse settings. In addition, the curriculum exposes students to the teaching, research, and public health policy aspects of nursing practice.

The program also includes the possibility of completing placements overseas.

“The BSN degree from Langara College offers applicants the ability for a diverse and rewarding career while fulfilling nursing’s mandate to care for and promote the health of our population,” said Janine Lennox, the Department Chair for Langara’s School of Nursing. “Our new admission processes and the reduced length of the program ensures that our students graduate prepared to enter their future sooner and with exactly the preparation they need to excel in their chosen profession.”

Langara School of Nursing has graduated students with a baccalaureate degree since 2007, and there has been a waitlist to get into the overwhelmingly popular program almost since its inception. The revised curriculum and pre-requisites have effectively cleared the waitlist, meaning new students now have the opportunity to apply for the upcoming academic year.  This application process, specific to each intake, ensures that qualified applicants no longer need to wait for years for admission from a waitlist.

“Come and be part of the School of Nursing,” said Diane Bradley, Division Chair of Health Sciences at the College. “We open the door to a rewarding career in providing and promoting health care for all members of the community.”
