In order to guarantee the success of the U-Pass BC program and continue to deliver benefits to students in a sustainable manner, it is essential that we work to preserve the integrity of the program. To this end, we ask all students to help by being mindful of the following points.
Safekeeping
The U-Pass BC should be treated as cash. Print your name on the back of the pass when you receive it, and store any not-yet-valid passes in a secure location. Students are limited to one replacement per semester at the cost of $35. If you subsequently lose another pass in the same semester, you will be required to pay regular fares for the remainder of that month.
TransLink Property and Proper Identification
The U-Pass BC remains the property of TransLink at all times. Students are required to carry both a valid U-Pass BC and Langara student ID card at all times when using transit and present them for inspection upon request from TransLink officials. Failure to do so may result in confiscation of U-Pass BC and additional fines charged by TransLink. No refund of fares will be issued by TransLink or Langara College for students not carrying the U-Pass BC and student ID card, but were otherwise eligible students.
Non-transferability
The U-Pass BC is non-transferable and only you as an eligible student holding a valid Langara student ID card are entitled to use it. If you give or sell your U-Pass BC to another person, use a U-Pass BC that you are not entitled to, or use the U-Pass BC in any other fraudulent manner, you are committing fare fraud. Students committing fare fraud will have their U-Pass BC confiscated and may be charged additional fines by TransLink and/or disciplined under the College’s Code of Conduct policy, which may include losing access to the program.
Eligibility Status
Students are only eligible for U-Pass BC benefits in the months that they are a registered and enrolled student at Langara College and fulfill eligibility requirements. In the event that a student drops or withdraws from all courses during the semester, the student will lose eligibility for remaining months of the semester and must return to the College any not-yet-valid U-Pass BC cards received.
