The following awards are intended for students who have an interest in acquiring knowledge in specific areas. Officials in charge of administering the awards may have specific eligibility requirements. Some may require proposals, research or aptitude in a particular field. Others may require successful applicants to move/ and or live in a certain area for a specified time. Baxter Corporation Jean Goodwill Scholarship
Two awards of $5,000 each encouraging nurses of Aboriginal ancestry who intend to serve in isolated northern Aboriginal communities by helping them obtain the specialized knowledge they will require.
Criteria:
- Aboriginal ancestry.
- Intend to serve in the North.
- Within 10 months of completing the program of study, the successful applicant must obtain employment in an isolated northern Aboriginal community or provide documentation that he or she has made a reasonable effort to do so.
- May be a student enrolled in a bachelor-level nursing program. May also be a student graduating from a registered nursing course or a graduate nurse already serving in an isolated community who has been accepted for further study in:
- Community health nursing
- Outpost nursing
- Midwifery

British Columbia Minority Language Inter-Provincial Travel Bursary
Funded by the Government and administered through the British Columbia Ministry of Education, this award is a bursary in the amount of two economy class return trips per school year to enable official minority language students to pursue post-secondary studies in French at a francophone or bilingual institution.

- Resident of British Columbia for the past 12 months
- Canadian citizen or landed immigrant
- Plan to register in full-time studies at a post-secondary French language or bilingual institution where French is the language of instruction

Broadcasters of the Future Awards: Aboriginal Peoples' Internship Award
The CanWest Global System Broadcasters of the Future Awards are a series of scholarship, internship and mentorship programs designed to encourage and aid talented and enthusiastic Canadians in establishing or furthering careers in the Canadian broadcast industry. The award recipient is placed in a four-month internship program at either the Global Television Network in Don Mills (Toronto), Ontario, or STV-Regina in Regina, Saskatchewan, where the recipient will be paid on a salary basis for the summer.
Criteria:
- Applicants must be Aboriginal Canadian
- Minimum secondary school graduate
- Interest in, and aptitude for, a career in the broadcasting industry
- Strong English language communications skills.
- One-page typewritten statement, 500 words or less, outlining applicant's educational and career goals.
- Three typewritten letters of reference (e.g., teacher, employer).

Celanese Canada Internationalist Fellowship

Darmasiswa Scholarship
The Department of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia is offering Darmasiswa Scholarships to students interested in learning the culture of Indonesia.
Criteria: (contact the Consulate General of Indonesia)
- Applicants must not more than 35 years old.
- Have completed secondary education or its equivalent
- Have the basic knowledge of the field applied for.
- Have filled up the application form provided by the Department of Education and Culture (DEC) through the Indonesian missions in the applicant's country of residence. The form should be accompanied by three (3) copies of the applicant's latest photo.
- Be in good health as attested by a Medical Certificate duly signed by a doctor from the applicant's country of residence and the Medical Examination Forms; provided by the DEC through the Indonesian missions in the applicant's country of residence
- Have coursed the application through the Indonesian missions in the applicant's country of residence and have proof of his/her nationality in that country.
- Submit ten (10) copies of the applicant's latest passport-sized photo (4x6 cm) to the DEC upon arrival in Indonesia
- Submit a photocopy of the applicant's passport valid for at least two (2) years at the minimum

The purpose of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation is to aid talented artists in the early stages of their career. The awards are limited to candidates working in the following areas: painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture. Their work must be representative or figurative of the Foundation character.

Xerox Aboriginal Scholarships and Internships Programs
The Xerox Aboriginal Scholarships and Internships encourage information technology literacy among Aboriginal men and women so they will be able to participate in Canada's economic prosperity as we move toward 2000. Xerox hopes to increase the number of Aboriginals employed in the information technology industry and in Xerox specifically.
Criteria:
- Canadian resident.
- Status or Non-Status Indian, Métis or Inuit.
- Must be a full-time student at an approved Canadian post-secondary institution in a program with significant content in information technology. This may be found in such disciplines as (though not restricted to):
- Computer/math sciences
- Business administration/commerce programs
- Engineering.
- Must meet and exceed academic requirements of the chosen post-secondary institution.
- Active participation in extra-curricular activities where community leadership skills are displayed.
- Participation in public duties and a well-rounded student.
