Welcome to Langara Day 2011

Welcome to Langara DayRecently alumni have been making a difference on campus interacting and connecting with current students. It's a fun and satisfying way of giving back and making a difference.

On Welcome to Langara Day, September 14, Langara Alumni Association (LAA) Board members volunteered their time to answer students' questions regarding their past experiences and current roles. This is one of the largest events on campus to welcome new and past students. LAA Board members Wesley Regan, Terri Bains and Marie Chatterton interacted with students and spoke to them about their own experiences and alumni benefits.

There was a draw for students to win a frame (available from the LAA at graduation for diploma and degree credentials) and students were asked to write a few words about why they chose Langara. The students comments were interesting and revealing: parents were Langara alumni; the College was recommended by friends; the small class sizes; a great Nursing Program; a more affordable and easier transition into post-secondary; closer to home; and one student wrote they chose Langara because it is fun!

Chanel Wood’s name was drawn at the LAA Board meeting as the winner of a beautifully crafted wood frame for her diploma or degree valued at $100.00. Chanel's reason for choosing Langara was to “have a stepping stone to university, and for the smaller class sizes.”  Chanel is currently studying Psychology and plans to transfer to SFU. Her mom is an alumna of the Langara Nursing Program.
