Scholarships & Bursaries

Where available, application requirements and deadlines are noted. In some cases, additional information may be available from the Manager of Services for Aboriginal Students. Students are reminded that they may also choose to apply for other Langara College scholarships which are not specific to Aboriginal students.

This should not be regarded as an authoritative listing of all available scholarships. Students are encouraged to refer to other scholarship listings and funding resources.

Top Ten First Nation Bursaries

New Relationship Trust: Aboriginal Scholarship Program

(Available to BC Aboriginals only)

  • 100 post secondary scholarships available @ $5,000/year
  • 10 Masters degree scholarships available @ 10,000/year
  • 6 Doctorate degree scholarships available @ $25,000/year

Annual Deadline: July 15th


Helen Bassett Commemorative Scholarships

Eligibility Criteria

  • You must be pursuing post-secondary studies
  • You must be under 31 years of age
  • You must demonstrate financial need
  • You must demonstrate commitment to improving the situation of Aboriginal women and youth in Canada politically, culturally, economically or otherwise
  • Former Youth Council members are not eligible to apply

Foundation for the Advancement of Aboriginal Youth (FAAY)

Last year more than $300,000 was distributed to 131 deserving Aboriginal scholars, of all ages.

Langara College – internal bursaries

Pick up your application on or after September 17th – each year there are a certain number of bursaries specifically for First Nations students…don’t forget to apply!

Royal Bank Aboriginal Student award program

Each year, five students will receive $4,000.00 annually for their education expenses, to a maximum of four years at university or two years at college, in disciplines related (but not restricted) to the financial services industry.

First Citizens' Fund - Student Bursary Program

These awards were established to assist Aboriginal students pursue post-secondary studies at a British Columbia college, university, technical or vocational institution.

Criteria:

  • Must be an Aboriginal student
  • BC resident for 6 months or more prior to application
  • Attending a recognized BC post-secondary institution in a minimum two-year academic program on a full-time basis
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
