Learn About Urban Wildlife
Wild animals in our city are fascinating to watch. How can we ¿wildlife-proof¿ our homes and surroundings and help make them less dangerous for wildlife? We will examine the behaviour and ecology of some urban animals, discuss how to recognize an injured animal and who to call for help, and describe the role of the wildlife rehabilitator.
(Presented by the Wildlife Rehabilitators Network of BC.)
Building Energy Efficiency & Sustainable Energy Workshop Series
Feeling the Heat - Reducing Energy Consumption in Buildings
Energy inefficient buildings cost businesses thousands of dollars every year. Using Langara College as a case study, course participants will explore the range of opportunities for reducing energy losses in institutional and commercial buildings. This workshop will explain the process of energy audit to implementation and participants will tour the college to learn about the energy saving changes firsthand.
Greening Your Living Space: Practical Ways to Reduce Energy Consumption in your Home or Building
Are you experiencing needlessly high energy bills? Are you wondering about the environmental impact of your buildings operations? Discover ways to reduce your buildings operating costs and contribute solutions to climate change. Apply the building as a system approach to retrofitting and identifying cost effective energy-efficient upgrades for homes. Case studies will highlight renovations costs and annual energy savings.
Making the Sale - Added Value of Home Energy Efficiency
With rising energy costs, the residential building industry is realizing that energy efficient design results in lower expenses over the lifetime of a home. We explore 10 ways to maximize energy efficiency, comfort, and value of the homes you design, build, or sell. This workshop is intended for real estate agents, home inspectors, homebuilders, planners, and homebuyers.

Permaculture Workshops
Gardening for the Faint of Heart
This course is designed for those who are beginners in food gardening and would love to feel more confident about understanding garden systems and food production. Students will learn garden terms (the fun way!), find the magic of "microclimates", make design choices, learn plant selection skills, how to properly "read" and use seed catalogues, simple soil improvement and more.
Practical Permaculture Design
Permaculture offers the busy urban gardener the ability to sustainably grow more food in a small space with minimal maintenance time. Learn about the practical applications of Permaculturea design system based on mimicking natural ecosystems. Students get to design their own perennial food system based on a simple drawing of their own garden space.
