Database Developer
Database Developer Certificate
DB1: Database Fundamentals
Learn the fundamentals of server-based database design. Topics include: hierarchical, network, and relational databases; Data Manipulation Languages (with emphasis on SQL); normalization; Data Structure Diagrams (DSD), and Entity Relation Diagrams (E-R). Explore the fundamental concepts of implementing database projects. The SQL Database Manipulation Language (DML) is covered in theory as well as in numerous hands-on assignments.
Prerequisites: Windows File Management, Computer Basics, or equivalent.
DB2: Database Design Concepts
Learn modern database design theory and techniques. Normalization and Data Structure Diagrams are reviewed and Entity-Relation (E-R) diagrams examined in detail. Advanced features of SQL are covered with many hands-on examples. Microsoft Access and mySQL Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) are used to explore concepts and implement database projects, including graphic user interfaces.
Prerequisites: DB1: Database Fundamentals.
DBDP: Database Design Project
Apply the skills acquired in DB1 and DB2 to create a comprehensive database solution. Starting with a business plan and applicable business rules, the participant will complete the logical design (database blueprint), then implement the normalized database tables and graphical user interface forms. By the end of this course the participant will have a fully functional database
Prerequisites: DB2: Database Design Concepts.
MS-SQL Server
Microsoft SQL Server is the engine that powers many Microsoft technologies (ASP.NET for one). Learn hands-on server installation, creating the physical database-files, and using Transact-SQL (T-SQL) and Data Transformation Services (DTS) to manipulate data. Database programming using stored procedures, transactions and triggers, user defined functions, and views will be covered in intensive, hands-on classes while implementing a comprehensive database project.
Prerequisites: DB1 and DB2 or equivalent.
Note: This course is held offsite in Unit L9 at our 601 West Broadway location.
Crystal Reports 1: Fundamentals
Crystal Reports is THE program for creating powerful reports from business databases (ACCPAC and Maximizer even build it in!). Learn how to select and sort data to creative attractive and well-organized printed reports. Enhance your results with formulas and cross-tabs layouts. Exporting reports and distributing data to Excel, Word, or e-mail is also be covered.
Prerequisites: DB1: Database Fundamentals, Access 1, or equivalent.
Crystal Reports 2: Advanced Reporting
Discover the next level of functionality in Crystal Reports, creating sophisticated reports with advanced formulas, shared variables, ranges, groups, complex record selection, and conditional formatting. Discover how to use Crystal Reports for advanced analysis that turns mere data into information that provides a business advantage.
Prerequisites: Crystal Reports 1 or equivalent.
