Skills

Students accepted into the Publishing Program receive design and production software training in the first semester and concentrate on creating professional-quality products in subsequent semesters. These products include Pacific Rim Magazine, website projects, a newsletter, advertising, personal projects and even promotional items such as T-shirts.

In the second semester students may specialize in one or more areas of magazine publishing such as editing, design, promotion or production, or a mix of hands-on learning experiences. The production of Pacific Rim Magazine is the major focus of the Publishing program in the spring. We also emphasize corporate publishing, new media production and book design throughout the program.

The third semester offers a concentration on new media skills and preparing for the publishing career that awaits graduates. It is the culmination of a year-long program of intensive training.
