The Post-Baccalaureate Upgrading for International Dietitians provides the practical Canadian dietetic healthcare experience required to qualify to write the Canadian Dietetic Registration Exam. Applicants to this program have completed the College of Dietitians of British Columbia (CDBC) application process. (See note 1)

Applicants have:

  • Completed a minimum four-year baccalaureate degree with a focus in food, nutrition and health or dietetics that is recognized by a credential evaluation agency as being equivalent in length to a Canadian university dietetics degree.
  • Have worked as a dietitian in their home country (the equivalent of one year full time)
  • Applied to the CDBC and accepted as an applicant. http://collegeofdietitiansbc.org/
  • Completed the CDBC’s Competence Self-Assessment Process (CSAP) including the Self-Directed Learning Plan to bridge competency gaps with the Essential Competencies for Dietetic Practice.
  • Completed academic upgrading within the previous three years to meet “currency” requirements.

All academic upgrading must have been completed prior to application to this practical upgrading program.

Application deadline is February 28, 2012. Send applications directly to the Co-operative Education Department.

The follow application documentation is required:

    • Copy of the letter from CDBC (or equivalent in other provinces) confirming completion of the CSAP
    • Copy of completed CDBC’s CSAP reports and Self-Directed Learning Plan indicating courses/activities completed, date of completion and original transcripts (if applicable)
    • Proof of a minimum of 50 hours of paid or volunteer work in a Canadian foods and/or dietetic-related organization
  • Evidence of meeting English competency requirements (Note 3)

The number of applicants accepted each year is determined by Langara College’s ability to secure placements with the BC health authorities.

A list of accredited programs is available on the American Dietetic Association website: *http://www.eatright.org/students/education/accreditedprograms.aspx*
