Langara Announces New Bursary
November 27, 2009
Langara College announced the receipt of $204,480 from the estate of David Pearson to provide increased post‐secondary opportunities for Aboriginal students. The funds will be used to endow the David Thomas Pearson Bursary Fund, which assists Aboriginal students, with demonstrated need for financial assistance, to continue their studies.
Pearson was the coordinator of First Nations' Education at Langara College since 1996. He also assisted with the development of the Aboriginal Studies program at the College and world for almost a year as its coordinator.
As a student, he served as a member of the External Advisory Committee on First Nations’ Education; Langara Students’ Union Native Students’ liaison, Langara Native Students Association coordinator, and Intercampus Native Student Network coordinator.
“The College is overwhelmed by Dave’s generosity. He was such a respected member of our community and his passing so unexpected. He is very much still missed,” said Sandra Biggerstaff, Manager, College Advancement, Langara College. “The David Thomas Pearson Bursary Fund is a fitting legacy of his commitment to Aboriginal students and to Langara.”
Pearson passed away on February 18th, 2006.
