Langara College President appoints new Vice President

September 9, 2009

The President of Langara College, Dr. David Ross announced that Langara College will have a new Vice President position effective immediately.

Dr. Martin Gerson will be Langara’s first Vice President Academic and Provost. In this position he will be responsible for creating and implementing a new academic management structure for the delivery of regular studies programs and courses. Gerson will work with the internal College community through the transition to the new structure for the senior level of academic management. His role will also include program development, forming academic partnerships and making linkages with the community and other institutions to help facilitate easier transitions for students from one institution to another, or into their career.

“This is an important next step in the growth of Langara College and will enable us to continue to strengthen the College’s instructional objectives in the coming months,” said President David Ross.

“The President and the College believe that forming linkages with community organizations and other institutions to help students on their educational or career path will help to make Langara’s students and our programs more successful,” said Gerson. “The President recognized that it was important for the organization to put resources into the management of our academic operations in order to strengthen our program development capabilities and facilitate this community outreach.”

Martin Gerson received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Simon Fraser University in 1974. He then became a Mathematics Instructor at Langara College and in 1987 became the Chair of the Mathematics & Sciences Division.  Gerson has spent his career working for the College and for the last 16 years has been one of the College’s Deans of Instruction, along with Linda Arnold. The Deans of Instruction focus on the day to day management of the academic operations of the College.
