Overview
The Langara College Self-Employment Program is funded in whole or in part through the Canada-BC Labour Market Development Agreement and operated by Langara College in collaboration with the Entrepreneur Assistance Society of Metro Vancouver.
The program is designed to assist people on Employment Insurance (EI) (or those whose EI
benefits have run out) to successfully start their
own businesses.
- The program is delivered in two phases
- Allows participants to collect 48 weeks of income support from the federal and/or provincial governments while developing their business
- Provides workshops and seminars on developing business plans and business management
- Helps build confidence and reduce the anxiety of starting a new business through counselling and support services.
Results from the 2008 Program Survey show that 96% of the former participants who responded are still in business, with combined annual sales of more than $3 million.
