Recreation professionals help people improve their quality of life. It is a profession that builds people and by this action builds communities. Langara College offers two programs in the recreation field:
Recreation Leadership Program
Recreation Management Program
The two-year Recreation Leadership Diploma Program is for students who like to work with people and help them experience the benefits of quality recreation. The program addresses issues such as::
- Planning recreation programs
- Organizing and planning special events
- Marketing and promoting recreation programs
- Programming community recreation facilities
- Organizing and staffing recreation programs and facilities
- Public speaking skills
- Facility design and operation
- Professional presentation skills

- Leadership skills
- Management (how to organize, monitor, plan, lead) skills
- How to partner with community groups, organizations and businesses
The program prepares students for employment in the field of Leisure and Recreation. It also provides a direct pathway to a bachelor’s degree via the Recreation Management Program as well as offers university-transfer options. Learn more.
The Recreation Management Program is a degree completion program (third and fourth year of a bachelor's degree) for students who have a recreation diploma or the equivalent, and who are interested in pursuing entry-level and middle management careers in the Recreation Field. The program is flexible and student-focused and combines a solid foundation in management theory and practical knowledge with specialized courses in recreation. Learn more.
