Academic Offerings

Summer English Language Program (SELP)

Join college and university-aged international students for three or four weeks of language and cultural study in beautiful Vancouver, B.C. This program gives you a chance to improve your English, live with a Canadian family, and take part in exciting recreation activities in Canada's beautiful natural environment.

Students can choose the length they prefer:

Four Week Summer English Language Program
August 7 - 31, 2012

Courses

Instruction

Small classes taught by experienced ESL teachers will work on developing English communication.

Culture and Recreation

Canadian cultural assistants take students on a series of exciting outdoor adventures such as kayaking, a one-day trip to the Whistler Ski Resort or a visit to the Vancouver Aquarium. Students also visit museums and Vancouver's ethnically diverse neighbourhoods.

Application for Admission

Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. They can be made any time after April 1st but are not confirmed until a deposit has been made. A non-refundable deposit of C$250 must accompany each application. The balance pf payment is due one month prior to the start of the program.

The deadline for applications is June 15. Students must be 18 years of age or older to participate in our program.

Fees

The course fee per student includes up to 20 hours of instruction per week, cultural recreation activities, and a bus pass.

Three Week Program - $1,200 (Canadian dollars) per student
Four Week Program - $1,600 (Canadian dollars) per student

The homestay fee per student is $35 per night plus a placement fee of $150. This includes accommodation plus three meals a day (bag lunch). Students are placed two per family. Single placement is accommodated on a space available basis and the fee is $200 per student.

Airport reception/send-off is $50 (optional). It is only available to students who start homestay immediately upon arrival.

Total Program Cost:

Three Week Program - $2,100 (Canadian dollars)
Four Week Program - $2,745 (Canadian dollars)
(includes tuition, homestay placement and daily fees for double occupancy, and airport transfers)

Payments

The balance of the program fee is due one month prior to the start date of the program. A deposit of $250 CAD must accompany each application. The deposit and fee are non-refundable.

Homestay

Three Week Program - August 5 through August 25 a.m. (20 nights)
Four Week Program - August 5 through September 1 a.m. (27 nights)

Homestay (optional for students) is an important part of the language immersion program. Students stay with carefully selected English-speaking families. Homestay families are interested in sharing their time and culture so that students can practice their English and learn about West Coast living. Students will take part in daily family activities. Many of the language assignments will involve discussions with your host family. During the program, you and your host family will participate in a picnic at one of Vancouver's beautiful beaches.
