The Publishing department’s mission is to teach students the latest publishing technologies and to help them develop a comprehensive knowledge of the goals, strategies and processes of print and electronic publishing. The department helps students achieve creative excellence in design, graphics, photographic imaging, writing, editing and publication planning. The program also provides intensive, hands-on publishing experience in a collaborative environment that fosters the professional attitudes and personal integrity needed to excel in a publishing career.
The faculty are all highly experienced and active in British Columbia’s publishing industry. They come from the fields of writing, editing, design, production, and publication management. They have worked on everything from books, to magazines, to corporate print publications and websites.
The faculty teach the software, writing, design and management skills needed for print publication. In the spring they guide students through an intensive production season when Publishing students write, edit, design and produce Pacific Rim Magazine. This high-quality, award-winning publication is distributed in the Globe and Mail each May.
