Japanese
Matilda Johnsson
Coming from Sweden, I took Japanese for 2 semesters at Langara College. I was positively surprised by the wide range of languages offered by the Langara Language Department. The small class sizes and friendly teachers contribute to a warm atmosphere and a great learning environment. The Language Department of Langara College has definitely improved my stay in Canada.

Through learning Japanese, I have not only gained a greater understanding of Japanese culture, but also realized that it is equally important to appreciate and respect Japanese culture. Taking Japanese classes at Langara makes learning Japanese easier. Students are able to learn Japanese in a very casual and relaxed environment. Instructors are helpful in answering students’ questions in class and out of class, which makes learning Japanese much easier and much more interesting! I believe that learning a language is fun, but learning to appreciate the culture and understanding the stories behind the language are even more interesting. Taking Japanese classes has greatly broadened my horizons.

I have been taking Japanese courses in Langara College for four semesters. It has been a wonderful time to learn a second language with all those knowledgeable and kind Japanese instructors. Besides, all the useful grammar points we learned in class, I also experienced the beautiful Japanese culture.

My name is Jamie-Lynn and I was in the Japanese Language Program at Langara before I transferred my studies to UBC. Since Langara I have had the opportunity to study at Waseda University in Tokyo and am currently finishing my Bachelor’s degree with a Japanese minor. The Japanese Language Program at Langara gave me the foundation and confidence that I needed to excel in advanced studies of Japanese as well as the necessary skills to survive daily life in chaotic Tokyo.
