Guided Independent Studies

French

Select French courses offer Guided Independent Studies (or correspondence) credit courses. This method of study allows students maximum flexibility, while still providing structure and support.

Courses French 1115/1215/1117/1217 are available as Guided Independent Studies (or correspondence) courses. This method allows you to work alone.

French 1115 and 1215 have four examinations: three term examinations which take place at specific times set by the department, and one final examination during the regular final exam period at a date and time set by the Registrar's Office.

For the two French 1117 and 1217 term examination schedules, please check with your instructor. One exam will be during the final examination period at a time set by the Registrar's Office.

GIS students work on approximately the same material, and use the same textbook, as those who attend classes, but access mp3 recordings or purchase CDs in order to complete audio
listening activities. On the term exams, there is a short audio test, but there is no oral exam. Homework is submitted according to each instructor's guidelines. Special GIS instructions and supplementary exercises are provided in two or three GIS manuals, which must be picked up from the instructor at the beginning of term. Most GIS instructors have an orientation session in Lab A340 on the first or second day of term in the late afternoon or early evening and it is important to attend this session. The time and date are posted online in the registration guide.

GIS instructors have regular office hours when they are available for consultation.
