About the 5th Annual Langara Accounting Case Competition
The Langara Accounting Faculty and the Langara Accounting Club would like to invite you to participate in the Langara Accounting Case Competition! This is a great experiential learning opportunity where you will use the technical accounting skills you have learned in the classroom and apply them to real-life business scenarios. Develop your skills, think strategically and have some fun!
Students will compete in teams of two for this internal case competition. Each team will be judged and ranked based on the team’s video submissions which will be max 7 minutes in length.
The top students will be invited to represent Langara College in the CPA BC Case Competition in early 2023 and will receive coaching from Langara's Accounting faculty.
Previously, Langara's teams have placed as follows in the CPA BC Case Competition:
- 2018- Top 8- MACK Consulting
- 2019- 3rd Place - MACK Consulting
- 2020- 3rd Place- BCS Consulting
Prizes
This year’s prizes are generously sponsored by CPABC and the Langara School of Management include:
1st Place- $300 cash prize provided by CPABC, $200 Langara Bookstore Gift Certificates (to be split between partners), CPABC Swag Basket
2nd Place- $200 cash prize provided by CPABC, $150 Langara Bookstore Gift Certificates (to be split between partners), CPABC Swag Basket
3rd Place- $150 cash prize provided by CPABC, $100 Langara Bookstore Gift Certificates (to be split between partners), CPABC Swag Basket
Eligibility
The competition is open to all Langara accounting students that have completed a minimum of one of the following:
- FMGT 1115
- FMGT 1116
- FMGT 4816
- FMGT 2293
- FMFT 4800
The competition is open to PDD Accounting students as well, so long as they meet the minimum requirements above. Students from ALL years are encouraged to apply!
Divisions
There will be NO divisions this year and all competitors will compete against one another so long as they meet the minimum requirements. There is a limit of nine teams total. Register early!
Team Size
You may enter in teams of 2 people.
Workshops
Two free workshops will be provided to get you ready for the case competition. The workshop dates are:
Case Writing Workshop- Wednesday November 16th (via Zoom) 5pm to 7pm
Creativity in Competition Workshop- Thursday November 17th (via Zoom) 5pm to 7pm
The workshops are not mandatory however they are strongly recommended as they will prepare you for the competition itself.
Registration deadline
Your team must register for the case competition before being able to attend the workshop. The registration deadline is: Wednesday November 9th 11:5pm PST
Competition dates
The case competition will begin Friday November 18th 8:30am and go til Thursday November 24th 11:59pm (submission deadline). Judging will commence during the period of Thursday November 24th until results are released Thursday December 1, 2022.
