Chemistry

The Chemistry department consists of ten faculty members and five laboratory demonstrators with expertise in a wide range of specialties (organic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry and environmental chemistry) and experiences at both the academic and industrial level.

Our mission is to provide students with the academic and laboratory skills required to pursue further academic studies in chemistry and numerous other disciplines (nursing, life sciences, engineering, medicine, education).  We pride ourselves with our ability to provide a quality education in a small classroom setting (24 to 40 students) that enables instructors to interact with students in small groups and on an individual basis.

The modern instrumentation in our laboratory, such as our ion-trap gas chromatography mass spectrometer, enable our second year level students to obtain real life hands on experience in chemical analysis and our weekly laboratory sessions ensure that students graduating from our chemistry program will have or exceed the experience required to successfully complete a science degree.
