How
to Qualify
Follow
the steps listed below to qualify for the Dietetic Canadian Experience
Program (DCEP).
1. Academic Evaluation
2. Permission from Provincial Regulatory Body (PRB)
- Apply
for registration with your provincial dietetic regulatory body. In BC, it is the College of Dietitians of British Columbia
- The provincial regulatory body will co-ordinate a comprehensive assessment
of academic qualifications with Dietitians
of Canada.
- The provincial regulatory body will evaluate all documentation and make recommendations
about how to qualify for registration. This may include academic upgrading as well as practical training. If you require 600 hours or less of practical training, you qualify for DCEP. If you have been assessed as needing more than 600 hours, apply to the GNS Internship.
- They will refer you to DCEP to obtain your
Canadian practical experience.
3. English
Skill Assessment
- Dietetics is a highly interative profession and you must be proficient in English communition skills. Being able to read, write, speak clearly and listen effectively are necessary.
English language requirements for DCEP/GNS as of June 1, 2008
- Graduate from a recognized degree program at an accredited university at which English is the principal language of instruction in country where English is the principal language ;
Or
- Achieve the competence standard indicated by one of the tests of English language proficiency that evaluates skills in listening, reading, speaking and writing listed below.
Language Tests that satisfy the English language requirement for DCEP
- IELTS 7.0 with no part less than 6.5
- TOEFL (Internet based) Minimum overall score 88 with a minimum of Reading 20; Listening 22; Writing: 20; and Speaking: 22
The
assessment process described above may take four to eight months.
