Computer technology has revolutionized the music industry in so many ways,
from changing the way that professional studios operate to creating an entirely
new genre of music; home based music production. This program is aimed at people
who wish to produce their own music, and burn it onto audio CD or MP3 format.
Computer programs such as Reason, Cubase, or Ableton Live have made it possible
for amateur musicians to compose, produce, mix, master and publish very high
quality music on either standard audio CD or MP3 format with remarkably little
expense. All you need is a good PC or Mac computer, an inexpensive USB keyboard
and the software, which usually costs less than $500 per package, and sometimes
less than $100.
Programs like Propellerhead’s Reason (www.propellerheads.se) allow you
to produce original music without the use of conventional instruments. You
may create as many mixers as you need, very complex synthesizers at your call,
highly complex drum machines, instrument samplers that play literally thousands
of beautifully samples acoustic and electronic instruments (Reason comes with
a completely sampled array of orchestra instruments), loop players and a mind
boggling collection of effects devices such as reverb, digital delay, vocoders,
compressors, phasers, etc.
For those of you who also want to record original analogue instruments such
as an acoustic guitar, piano or vocals, we use programs such as Cubase (www.steinberg.net)
along with a USB interface to record your instruments or vocals directly onto
Cubase’s sequencer on your computer, and then use programs such as Reason
to accompany the track with as many other instruments as you like.
This program is also very relevant to people interested in using programs
such as Ableton Live for live DJs or very complex loop based music. The
program
is also very useful for interactive media designers who need to produce sound
tracks, sound effects or sound bytes. You do not have to be an experienced
musician to make very good use of the courses in this program.
