In the Writing for Publication course, Publishing students learn to write for a variety of publications. The first step is to come up with a focused story idea. In the Editing Theory and Techniques course, students learn substantive editing, copy editing, proofreading, fact checking, and how to manage the entire editing process. A student who receives a story from a writer would begin with a substantive edit, like this:
