FAQs
What is STEP?
STEP is an exciting, full-time, lower-level English language program focusing on the environment and culture of Vancouver and Canada.
What are the benefits to studying in STEP?
In the STEP Program, you will develop your English language skills while expanding your knowledge of Vancouver, Canada and the world.
How long do I need to study in STEP?
The answer depends on what your level of English is when you start STEP and what level you want your English to be when you finish STEP. Most students study in the program for 1 - 3 sessions, that is, 2 - 6 months. Students can take as many sessions as they choose.
How many levels are there in STEP?
There are 3 levels in the STEP Program. The program begins at a beginner level and goes to a low-intermediate level.
How can I progress to the next level?
Your performance and marks during the 7-week session make up your final grade. This determines whether or not you can progress to the next level. In order to meet the goals of each level, students must be prepared to do approximately 10 hours of homework per week.
Can I study at Langara College after I finish my STEP studies?
Students can study at Langara when they meet the college entrance requirements. Students who successfully complete STEP can enter the Langara English for Academic Purposes (LEAP) Program. Successful completion of the LEAP Program (LEAP Level 8) meets the English Language Proficiency requirement for entry into the Arts & Science (University-transfer) Program at Langara College. It also meets the pre-requisite for entry into college credit English (English 1107).
