Photography
The Photography Certificate Program is one of Canada’s top programs for training freelance commercial photographers, photojournalists, wedding and portrait photographers. The program also welcomes those who are brand new to photography, amateurs and passionate hobbyist photographers. The program places emphasis on applied technical issues, equipment operations, artistic and stylistic issues and business and ethical issues specific to commercial and retail photography. Students may take the entire program shooting with a DSLR camera, film camera or a combination of the two.
Students entering basic level courses in this program do not need any previous training or experience in photography. Students must have their own 35mm or digital SLR camera and a sturdy tripod. An assortment of lenses is not necessary but is an advantage. Students with previous training or experience may challenge courses up to Practical Lighting through a portfolio showing with the Program Coordinator.
This program has trained some of Canada’s top commercial and retail photographers as well as photojournalists. For students who are hobbyist photographers or students pursuing a career as a photographer, there is much that this program has to offer. There are numerous courses to choose from and the program is set up so that students may tailor the program to their individual goals. This program offers an environment where students can feel safe experimenting creatively and collaborate with other students and instructors who are equally passionate about the craft of photography.
The program is designed so that you may take as many or as few courses as you wish. The Photography Certificate Program participates in the Lifetime Alumni Program which means that students who achieve certification in the program are able to take any course in the Photography Certificate Program for free for the rest of their life. With the Lifetime Alumni Program, graduate students can come back to upgrade their skills when technology advances or take the elective course they chose not to take for certification at no cost.
