Mike Wiskar Program Coordinator +-
Mike is a Leo-nominated composer, songwriter, independent music
producer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. Mike began his music
career as a performer before working as a songwriter for various artists
in Quebec, where he worked closely with Myles Goodwyn of legendary
Canadian rock band April Wine. He has since written and produced
numerous scores for film and TV as well as written for and music
directed theatre productions in Japan.
Rob Crowston Instructor +-
Owner of Wordnoise Creative and VoiceOverActors.ca, Rob Crowston is an
award winning (CLIO, Lotus and Canadian Broadcast Creative Awards)
multimedia veteran with a background in radio, television, advertising
and multimedia. Rob has worked as a sound engineer, producer, writer and
voice-over artist in many radio and TV spots, documentaries, corporate
videos, audio walking tours and in on-line media. He’s also been a
Broadcast instructor at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
Kevin Kowal Instructor +-
A graduate of the University of Manitoba and student of Pierre Souverain
of the Conservatoire de France while at the University of Toronto,
Kevin Kowal is a multi-instrumentalist/performer, composer, historian,
educator, engineer and producer with a deep knowledge and understanding
of not only music but cutting edge technology as well. He is also part
owner of Fadermaster Studios.
Yota Kobayashi Instructor +-
Yota is a classically trained musician with an extensive background in
both classical music and electronic music. He has written extensively on
sound design and programming for synthesizers and samplers. Yota has
also written many original music scores and orchestrated scores.
David Bernstein Instructor +-
David is one of the most prolific composers and producers of scores for
film, TV and radio in Canada. He earned his degree in music through the
prestigious Berklee College of Music, and has well over 20 years
experience producing scores in both Canada and the US. David is a
passionate and inspirational speaker on the topic of scoring for film
and TV, as well as having an expert background in the business and
legalities of the music industry.
Adam Fulton Instructor +-
Adam is also an independent producer and musician. He received his
degree in music at the prestigious Liverpool Institute of Performing
Arts (LIPA). Like so many independent producers, Adam not only produces
the work of other artists, but also writes and produces his own personal
work, as well as commercial scores. He has worked on projects with such
renowned artists as Paul McCartney and George Martin and continues to
produce other artists here in Vancouver.
Deborah Holland Instructor +-
Since the late 1980s, when she co-founded the much-heralded pop trio Animal Logic with ex-Police drummer Stewart Copeland and virtuoso bassist Stanley Clarke, Deborah Holland has become known throughout the world as a singer, songwriter, producer, and film composer. In addition to the two highly-acclaimed albums Deborah recorded with Animal Logic, Holland has released four solo albums, and in 2008,Unbound (Wabuho Records) with her current band The Refugees. Critics have praised her music as “…demands repeated listening,” "gritty, honest, funny, and heartfelt" and "exquisite."
Deborah has produced, written songs for, or has performed on more than a dozen albums by other artists, scored eight motion pictures, and has written, produced, and/or performed original songs in more than two dozen other motion pictures and network television shows including Peter Benchley's The Beast, V.I.P., Highlander II, One False Move, Fright Night II, and My Name Is Earl. She has also performed live on several nationally-syndicated radio broadcasts and on two of television's most popular late-night talk shows: The Tonight Show (two separate performances hosted by Jay Leno and Johnny Carson), and Late Night With David Letterman, as well as having music videos played in regular rotation on MTV and VH-1.
John Jamin "J.J." Wagler Instructor +-
John Jamin Wagler is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist and the world's youngest Ableton Certified Trainer. He entered Muskingum University in Ohio as a music major at the age of 16, where he studied classical and jazz piano, composition, voice, and guitar. Since then, he's been heavily in demand as a session musician, touring live electronic/keyboard performer, and electronic producer. Currently, he's focusing on a live duo dubstep show with Propa Tingz from the UK, and working with his new live 3-piece electronica fusion project, Electolyte.
