Communication Arts

Design. Advertising. Art Direction.

The Communication Arts Certificate Program (CA) is based on a strategy to accommodate the needs of today’s modern designer. The program is structured for adults who wish to either pursue a new career direction or expand upon their current design skills. The program allows for creative individuals interested in the design industry, recent graduates and junior designers already working in the industry to benefit from the classes in our curriculum. Regardless of the motivation behind enrolling in the program, the goal is to aid students in finding their own direction within the profession.

The CA Program incorporates visual communication and experiential design, with regards to analog and digital. Each level builds upon the previous to expand the creative process and skill set with a particular focus on ideation, an integral and vital component of the design process. Throughout the program, concentration is also placed on portfolio development and design strategies. The aim is to provide a thorough and professional education in Communication Design (Graphic Design) and Ideation (Art Direction) through our curriculum.

The Communication Arts Program promotes an atmosphere of creative and conceptual thinking. It stimulates and encourages the thought process through an evolving curriculum. Students will learn tools and techniques for idea generating and brainstorming to apply through different mediums—advertisement concepts for print or interactive media, branding strategies, product packaging, etc.

Upon completion, graduates will be able to identify and demonstrate skills in print and digital applications, including: layout and composition; usability issues; typography; art direction; idea generation and brainstorming; historical references; cultural issues; and marketing and branding strategies.

The CA program offers both full-time and part-time options. Students can complete the full-time program over 2 years, or part-time depending on the flexibility of their schedule. All classes are held on evenings and weekends.
