Telephone System

Most Langara locals can be dialed from off campus by adding the 323 prefix. Certain locals cannot be dialed from outside the campus. These locals have an asterisk beside them in the directory.

If you wish to dial an off-campus number, add a at the beginning—for example, 9-604-874-1234

To contact the Campus Switchboard, dial O.

Voicemail

To dial directly to a person's voicemail box without their telephone ringing, simply dial 80 then the voicemail box number—for example, 80 5218.

Long Distance - Government Offices

If you wish to phone a provincial government office anywhere in the province, you may do so free of charge. Just call Enquiry B.C. at 604-660-2421 and ask the operator to connect you to the number.

Telephone/Voicemail Problems

To report telephone or voicemail problems that this page doesn't help you solve, please call the IT Service Desk at local 5999.

The Telephone is Not Ringing

Check the ringer on the side of the telephone set base. Has it been turned off? Do you hear a series of short beeps when you pick up the handset before the dialtone? If so, your phone has Call Forwarding enabled or it is set to Do Not Disturb. See Call Forward.

High Pitched Squeal or Beeping Sound

You are being called by a fax machine. Many fax machines will redial until the call is answered by another fax machine. Should you get a call like this, transfer the call to a fax machine in your area or to the campus main fax machine. Our Langara fax machine will answer the call and accept the fax. Notify the party sending the fax that their fax machine was dialing the wrong number.

Power Failure Telephone Procedures

In the event of a power failure, the main telephone system is equipped with a backup power supply. However, certain "Power Failure" locals have been designated throughout the campus. These are telephones that can be used to dial out only ("9" not required) in the event of an extended power failure. The locals and locations follow:
