2010-11 MEN'S BASKETBALL OPEN TRY OUTS
The Langara men's basketball team will be having open try outs for the 2010-11 season on Wednesday, September 8th, 2010 from 5:30pm - 8:00pm. All those interesting in attending please contact Coach Jake McCallum at jmccallu@langara.bc.ca as soon as possible. Please bring a pair of running shoes, basketball shoes, and a reversible top.

(Vancouver, BC) – The Langara College Men’s Basketball program is proud to announce that Devin McMurtry, Daniel Hobden, Anthony Sohal, Alex Dix and Semir Ibrahim have committed to attend Langara College next year. |

Name: Devin McMurtry
Height: 6’4”
Position: Forward
High School: Fraser Heights Secondary
Devin McMurtry is a 6’4” forward from Fraser Heights Secondary in Surrey. “Devin is a big strong player that is very active at both ends of the court”, commented Coach McCallum. “His toughness, nose for the ball and willingness to do the dirty work are key attributes that Devin will bring to the Falcon’s roster”.

Name: Daniel Hobden
Height: 6’1”
Position: Guard
High School: Cowichan Secondary
Daniel is a 6’1” shooting guard from Cowichan Secondary. In his senior year, this Vancouver Island All-Star averaged 15 points a game and helped lead his team to the AAA Boys Provincial Championships. “We are very pleased to have Daniel on board with us this Fall”, said McCallum. “Daniel understands the game, he makes people around him better and he can really shoot the ball.” “Daniel is a humble, hard working individual who excels on the court and in the classroom; he will be a welcome addition to the Falcons next year.” |

Name: Anthony Sohal
Height: 6’2”
Position: Guard
High School: Delta Secondary
Anthony Sohal graduated from Delta Secondary in Ladner. This 6’2” Fraser Valley All-Star averaged 24 points and 8 rebounds on the way to leading his team to their first AAA Provincial birth in 17 years. “He is a strong and aggressive player that has a knack for finding the hoop”, McCallum said of Sohal. “His work ethic and love for the game are infectious and will help him excel at the College level.” |

Name: Alex Dix
Height: 6’3”
Position: Guard
High School: White Rock Christian Academy
Alex Dix hails from South Surrey where he graduated from White Rock Christian Academy. The 6’3” shooting guard was a mainstay in the starting lineup for the AAA Provincial runners up. “Alex is a tough, hard nosed guard that enjoys playing a physical style of basketball,” noted coach McCallum. “Alex can also stretch the defense with his ability to knock down the 3 point shot.” |

Name: Semir Ibrahim
Height: 6’0”
Position: Guard
High School: Britannia Secondary
Semir Ibrahim is 6’0” point guard from Britannia Secondary. He was the MVP of the Provincial AA Boys basketball tournament where he led the Bruins to a Provincial Championship averaging 19 points and 9 rebounds. “Semir is a highly intelligent player who makes great decisions at both ends of the court,” said McCallum. “He is very athletic, he sees the court well and he raises the level of play every time he steps on the court. He is also a great defensive player and gives opposing guards’ a lot of problems.”

GLENN RUBY COMMITS TO LANGARA BASKETBALL FOR 2010/11
(Vancouver, BC) – The Langara College Men's Basketball program is pleased to announce the commitment of Surrey standout Glenn Ruby (Clayton Heights Secondary). This announcement was made today by the Department of Athletics and Intramurals at Langara College.
The 6’2” Ruby lead the Night Riders to their first AAA Provincial Tournament appearance in school history. “Glenn has a great feel for the game and does all the little things right" commented Langara's Head Coach Jake McCallum. "This coupled with his great work ethic and desire to excel will make him a valuable addition to the Falcon roster." Glenn was named to the Surrey and Provincial all-star teams for his outstanding play this past season.
In choosing to attend Langara, Ruby will be joining another Surrey product Noor Mann (Fleetwood Park) for the 2010/11 season at the College. Langara has a longstanding tradition of being the destination and stepping stone for many of Surrey's high school grads highlighted in recent years by Rob Fougner (WRCA), Brian Fougner (WRCA), and Jeron Dillon (WRCA).
The Langara College Falcons compete in the BC Colleges' Athletic Association (BCCAA) and the Canadian Colleges' Athletic Association (CCAA).

FLEETWOOD PARK'S NOOR MANN COMMITS TO LANGARA BASKETBALL
(Vancouver, BC) – The Langara Men's Basketball program is pleased to announce that Surrey standout Noor Mann will be joining the Falcons for the 2010-2011 season. The announcement was made today by the Department of Athletics and Intramurals at Langara College.
The 6’1” guard averaged 21 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists this past season with Fleetwood Park Secondary. “Noor will be a great addition to the team. He is very coachable and a fierce competitor with a good understanding of how to play the game” commented Head Coach Jake McCallum. “He is a slasher with a quick first step and has shown he can score in a variety of ways.”

ELLIOT MASON SIGNS WITH LANGARA BASKETBALL FOR 2010/11
(Vancouver, BC) – The Langara College Men's Basketball program is
pleased to announce the commitment of Richmond standout Elliot Mason
(J.N. Burnett Secondary). This announcement was made today by the
Department of Athletics and Intramurals at Langara College.
Mason, who stands 6'5" and has played both small forward and point guard
this season, is currently averaging 22 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists
per game for the Breakers. “Elliot’s versatility allows him to play a
number of positions" commented Langara's Head Coach Jake McCallum. "This
coupled with his athletic ability should allow him to flourish at the
next level. He'll be a great addition to the Falcon roster."
