FALCON NAMED CCAA ALL-CANADIAN
Nov 15, 2011

lana Rockhil The captain of the Langara Falcons women’s soccer squad has been named to the CCAA All-Canadian team.

Lana Rockhill, from North Vancouver, was named to the elite line-up at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s (CCAA) annual All-Canadian Soccer Banquet in Quebec City last week. The striker, who proudly led the Falcons as team captain and top scorer for the 2011 season, said she was “thrilled” with the honour.

“This was a really good season,” she said.” The girls are so great, and I never could have done this without them. The growth the team went through from last year to this year should really be commended, and I hope they know how much I appreciate them all. I couldn’t pick a better team to lead. The other girls on the All-Canadian are incredible, and it was an honour to be a part of it.”

Lana, a third year general studies student at Langara, was a key playmaker all season, propelling her team to win with her impressive goal scoring ability and leading them to a bronze at the BC provincial tournament.

Head coach Ryan Birt cited Lana’s performance during the team’s season opener in Prince George, against the University of Northern British Columbia, as a fitting example of her leadership on the field. He said: “Even in our very first game of the year she led by example. We’d had a tough road trip and we had a very young team, so literally 70 per cent of the players didn’t know what to expect. Lana put the team on her back and really set the tone. She scored three goals in the first 35 minutes.”

Coach Birt said the whole team was proud of their captain for her achievement. “She’s very deserving of it. She’s been with us for three years and has grown in maturity and skill with the team. This year she really excelled both on and off the field. For her to be recognized as an All-Canadian is very fitting, and a tremendous accomplishment for her.”

Lana, who has played soccer since childhood, spent two years training at the National Training Centre at Simon Fraser University before playing for Langara. She also played with the Vancouver Whitecaps prospect team.
