SOLID ROAD TRIP FOR FALCONS
Oct 15, 2011
The Falcons spent the weekend on the road in the Okanagan. On Saturday they were in Kamloops to face the the TRU Wolfpack, the men got off to good start as Mynor Campos Jr. beat the TRU goalkeeper eight minutes into the game. TRU managed to tie the game late in the 78th minute on a penalty kick. Undaunted the Falcons pushed right to the end and Ryan Gobbert got the go ahead goal in extra time. " This game could have gone both ways, " said Langara coach David Shankland " After they got the tying goal in the last 15 minutes, we both had chances to win it. It so happens we did. We really needed the points." Langara then made the trek to Kelowna, where they faced the UBCO Heat on Sunday afternoon. Thanks to goals from Brett Wiens and Amit Bhuller, the Falcons ended up with a with a hard fought 2-2 tie.
Next Game: Saturday October 22 at BCIT against Kwantlen at 1:00pm
NO POINTS ON THE LONG WEEKEND
Oct 11, 2011
The Langara men had a tough holiday weekend. Saturday the Falcons hosted the Vancouver Island University Marineers, and the visitors took it to the Falcons from the opening whistle, scoring three goals in the first half. After the break the Falcons mounted some pressure and Konstantin Vasic was able to tally his first goal of the season. That would be as close as the Falcons would get, with the final ending up 3-1 for VIU. On Sunday the Falcons faced their cross town rivals Capilano. The Falcons came out a bit flat to start off the contest, and Capilano capitalised with an early goal. Capilano continued to control most of the play and were able to score their second goal to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. After the break the Falcons brought pressure and had several chances to cut into the Blues' lead, but no one could find the back of the net. With 20 minutes left and against the flow of play Capilano got a break and put in their third of the afternoon ending the Falcons hopes of a comeback. The final was 3-0 for the Blues.
Next Game Saturday October 15th at TRU 2:00pm.
FOUR POINT WEEKEND
Oct 3, 2011
The Falcon Men had a successful weekend earning a tie and a win against Quest University. On Saturday, the Falcons got off to a quick start and Brett Wiens opened the scoring with a goal at the 10 minute mark. After the half Quest increased the pressure and the Falcons had goalie Paul Shipizky to thank for keeping the lead. In the 90th minute the Falcons conceeded a free kick, and Quest made the most of the opportunity with a header to earn the tie. On Sunday it was Quest that got the first goal 15 minutes in. Mynor Campos Jr. then pulled the Falcons even when he converted a penalty kick. Later in the first half Ryan Gobert provided a cross to Amit Bhuller who slotted in the Falcons' second. Quest evened it up 20 minutes into the second half. With 25 minutes remaning Jason Cordeiro played the ball forward to Brett Wiens who headed in the go ahead goal. The Falcons relied on keeper Brynmor Tucker to close out the game.
Next game is Saturday Oct. 8th against VIU at 3:00pm.
MEN GET A POINT
Sept 26, 2011
The Falcons had their first game of the weekend against Douglas College on Saturday afternoon. Douglas opened the scoring in the 30th minute when they converted on a penalty kick. About ten minutes later Langara found themselves in a tough spot after a red card reduced them to 10 men. The Falcons battled back early in the second half and managed to tie up the game. Unfortunately they couldn't hold on, and the strain of being a man down caught up to them. The final score ended up 1-6. On Sunday the Falcons had to regroup as they faced the Kwantlen Eagles. They got off to a rough start going down 0-2 early, then in a span of 10 minutes Brett Wiens scored two goals to tie it up going into half time. The second half saw both teams become a little tentative as no one wanted to give up the go ahead goal, and the game ended in a 2-2 draw. The Falcons next game is against Quest University at BCIT on October 1st at 3pm.

The Langara men got their first win of the campaign on Sunday at Empire Field against the UNBC Timberwolves. The game was a back and forth affair with both teams having several good chances to score in the first half. The second half brought more of the same as the intensity increased and time ticked away. Finally a break came for the Falcons as Stefano Mattia was given a wonderful ball as he broke in clear of the defense on the left side. Finding himself alone with the keeper Stefano slotted home his first goal of the season. It was all the Falcons would need giving them a 1-0 result. The Falcons next game is on Saturday Sept 24th against Douglas College.
