LANGARA HAS STRONG SHOWING AT NATIONALS

Congratualtions to Luke Couture who won a Bronze medal in the Men's Singles at the CCAA Badminton Nationals in Kamloops last weekend. The Semi-Final match-up pitted Luke versus his PACWEST rival Bob Sharma, it was a tightly contested match but Bob Sharma was able to pull out the win 23-21 and 22-20. Luke then went on to face Simon Yip of the OCAA for the bronze medal, and this time came out on top of another very close match 23-21 and 21-18. Luke also won a gold medal as member of the PACWEST in the team competition. Alissa Young had a fine showing at her first CCAA National Tournament finishing 6th in her Women's Single event, and 5th with her teammates as the PACWEST Hosts.

BADMINTON PLACES THIRD AT PROVINCIALS

Luke CoutureThe Falcons spent the weekend in Kamloops where they battled for PacWest Badminton suppremacy. It was a busy weekend with the team event happening on Saturday, the Falcons played well but ended up loosing a tight battle with Capilano to drop them to a 3rd place finish. On Sunday the Individual events took place and the Falcons came out strong. Alisa Young took home the Silver Medal in the Womens Singles event, and Luke Couture took home the Gold in the Mens Singles. Luke and Alisa will now represent team BC at the National Tournament March 1-3 at TRU in Kamloops. Best of Luck to them both!

 

 

 

FALCONS SITTING IN THIRD PLACE HEADING INTO PROVINCIALS

The Falcons had another strong showing at their final tournament of the regular season held at Douglas College. The Falcons had their best individual results of the seaon with Luke Couture finishing 2nd in Pool A, and Alisa Young 4th in Pool A. In Mens Doubles play Luke Couture and Ken Fung placed 2nd, and in Mixed Doubles, Shurman Chan and Julia Chiang placed 4th in Pool A. All the hard work has earned the Falcons the third seed heading into Provincials Febuary 18 & 19 at TRU in Kamloops. It has also moved the Falcons up one spot in the national rankings to 8th.

BADMINTON OFF TO A GREAT START

The second tournament of the season was held at Capilano University on the North shore of Vancouver, November 25th and 26th. The Falcons finished the weekend in third place. Some highlights of the weekend were Luke Couture's 1st place finish in Mens Singles (A pool), Chris Chung/Luke Couture's 1st place finish in Mens Doubles (B pool), and Chris Chung/Julia Chiang's 4th place finish in (A pool). The Falcons are off to an exhibition tournament in Nanaimo this weekend Dec 3 & 4th.

BADMINTON DUO WIN NATIONAL SILVER MEDAL

The Men's doubles badminton team of Chris Chung and Pierre Tang competed at the CCAA National Badminton Tournament this past weekend in Sackville, New Brunswick. Coming off their provincial gold medal the team proved they could compete with the best in Canada by winning the silver meadl in men's doubles. The team was extremely pleased with their result and had an incredible time back east.
