Contract positions, LEAP Program, Continuing Studies
The Langara English for Academic Purposes (LEAP) Program at Langara College is accepting applications for sessional instructors for the 2009 - 2010 academic year. Teaching contracts range from 8–12 contact hours per week. Contract renewal is subject to student enrollment and instructor performance each 8-week session during the one-year probationary period. Contracts are available for the session starting March 3, 2010. Remuneration for a 12-hour contract starts at $7500 per session.
The LEAP Program is a non-credit intensive English and academic skills program which prepares students for full-time study at college and university. The program follows an integrated-skills, task-based approach to language learning. Team-teaching is an integral part of the program. Instructors are responsible for delivering the course as described in the LEAP curriculum. This includes preparing materials that fulfill the course objectives; planning lessons and assignments in coordination with the team-teacher; and giving on-going and final student evaluation. Instructors are also required to participate in staff meetings, and assist with placement testing.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Master’s Degree in a relevant area (Bachelor’s Degree with specialization in TESL or BC TEAL/TESL Canada recognized TESL certificate equivalent to the specialization in TESL from a degree program will also be considered)
- Minimum 4 years teaching experience (3200 contact hours) in ESL / EFL at the adult level, with a minimum of 2 years in academic preparation
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team
- Experience in materials development for an integrated skills EAP curriculum
Salary Range: Remuneration for a 12-hour contract starts at $7500 per session.
