Placement and Recommendations Assistant

Temporary, Full-Time

Start Date: Immediately to March 30, 2012, with the possibility of extension

Reporting to the Department Chair, the Placement and Recommendations Assistant is responsible for administrative and secretarial functions in support of practice placement management and the Recommendations Committee for the Nursing Program. This individual must maintain current knowledge of College and Nursing School of Nursing policies and procedures. This individual also acts as a liaison between the School of Nursing and practice agencies and provides faculty candidates with appropriate information.  The individual completes other duties that may be assigned from time to time and covers for the School of Nursing Senior Secretary as appropriate.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience: 

  • Grade 12 completion plus a certificate in office administration, business, or secretarial skills.
  • Two (2) years of related administrative and secretarial experience, preferably within a post-secondary educational environment.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • HSPnet experience an asset.
  • Understanding of health care terminology an asset.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in English and the ability to effectively communicate clearly and tactfully (both orally and in writing) with others.
  • Ability to explain and follow complex policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and working relationships to deal professionally, diplomatically, and respectfully with the students, faculty, members of the College, and the public.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information and exercise tact, discretion, good judgement and diplomacy.
  • Attention to detail and ability to enter data accurately.
  • Proficient computer skills in a Windows environment, including word processing (MS Word & Word Perfect), spreadsheets (i.e. Excel) database software (MS Access), Internet searching. 

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends to adapt to variation in scheduling.

Salary Range: $36,418 – $41,198 Annualized (Pay Grade 17)

Employee Group: CUPE

Hours & Days of Work: Hours of work are based on Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm; however, hours may vary according to the need of the department.  This position is not subject to the compressed workweek.
